Simon only uses viagra to stop him pissing on his feet
He's next door neighbour keeps pleading with him not to piss on the roses.

I use diazepam for Mental Health problems as prn which means when needed when I'm feeling very unwell or just very anxious I hardly ever have them now which is good but wouldn't dream of trying to 'calm my nerves' before a poker game medication like this should be used properly and by the sounds of it that's for reaeration use which would make this a DRUG and not just a prescription medication. It can help calm nerves but I prefer to keep mine for when I feel unwell and not for a poker game. I have been on 2mg and 5mg they both help when used properly. I don't post often or visit to regularly any more but felt I needed to post this.

If you were to use this for a poker game then I would suggest your getting the medication for totally the wrong reasons.

thanks

Well firstly, I didn't say Diazepam, others did. I did mention I was prescribed them years ago to try and help with my fibromyalgia and I may as well have taken a smartie. I still have the remainder of them in a drawer at home.

I also have boxes of Amitriptyline which I get on repeat prescription as a muscle relaxant and for neuropathic pain. In higher doses this is also used for depression etc (like diazepam) Again I choose not to use them as they do nothing to me but make me feel very tired the following day.

I would not even take a painkiller until pain is unbearable. I had to learn (the hard way) to even swallow tablets as they make me retch. But with diabetes, high blood pressure, anemia and fibromyalgia I have little choice.

But I disagree with you. Having something prescribed to alleviate nerves or anxiety before an event is NOT recreational use. It is no different than being prescribed valium etc to help you on a flight. Poker just happens to be what I do.

I am not nervous or anxious about the poker but about the people. Especially a new environment. I am ok once I get comfortable somewhere.

The point to this is that I take a few drinks before I go to play and if I am very nervous (anxious) I might swig more than is good to play at my best. Where this is ok at our more social events it is not the best plan for a high stakes serious game.

I could just go to my doctor and say .. 'look I have issues with this' and he would give me something but I asked here because I wanted to see if, as players, anyone was on meds that helped relax but not affect the brain adversely.

Again I will say. It is not for recreational purposes, far from it. My life is, I am at home or I am off to some poker weekend somewhere, thus meaning poker would happen to be the only time I would require it.

But thank you for your input and taking the time to share it. I don't think we came to any actual answer anyway. So it looks like a few bevvies is the only answer for now.

Don't think there would be a doctor in the world who would prescribe someone drugs. To calm their nerves for a poker tournie.
Drugs are for illness body or mind.(or a good time recreational :D )
I would think starting to take drugs for poker tournies etc.would be the first step to dependency on them.

Kalms.

Natural, no addiction, no prescription required, nothing illegal.

But let's be honest. It wasn't really a genuine question right?

It's not about the poker ... it's about a situation. Exactly like flying and on the very very odd occasion, AND NOT FOR A SOCIAL EVENT. Where a few beevies is fine.

Where would addiction come into it FFS. I have a house full of addictive drugs if I wanted to use them.

2 members of my family are on regular meds for depression and anxiety. (one of them being my older sister) These things would be hard to come off if you went down that road. I do not interact much with the world outside of poker so I use the word Poker as the only time I would feel I would need something (though not that) Just not booze.

It was a simple question. Now its a drug issue? FFS !

You actually gave a very sensible answer.

Why the need to follow it with the usual condescension?

Does it hurt your street cred that you might actually want to help me out for a change?

You really do not need to be an asshole every day.

Do you?

Back from my local dealer and just scored 60 tabs of Prednisolone and 8 Tabs of Doxycycline. 1 of them apparently would make Mr Blake play like Mr Jolly so dropped 8 of that and 2 of the other and will fire a couple of games up on Red 34 to see if its true!!!!!
